Lunar Year of Wood Dragon art installation
February 2024
Celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Wood Dragon the Grote Business Precinct commissioned local artist Lin Min and Makerspace Adelaide to create an interactive art experience for locals and visitors to engage with.
The creative art and cultural project sponsored by the City of Adelaide has brought many new visitors over the past 3 years to take selfies with the Rabbit, Tiger and Ox installations in 2023, 2022 and 2021.
Grote Business Precinct encourage community groups, businesses, families and friends from all cultures to take a 'good fortune' selfie with the dragon and share on social media.
2024 will be the 12th year of the cultural art project which started off as commissioned pavement art chalk drawings by local artists.
When the renovation of Chinatown began involving new paving along Moonta street a new concept had to be created and so Grote Business Precinct Association went for a moveable, interactive art installation instead of pavement art.
This has proved to be very popular with visitors and traders alike embracing a new look Chinatown and interacting with the animal character for 'good fortune' selfies all round year.
The new Dragon installation was revealed on 9 February 2024 as the local community gathered with the Hon Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith and Jing Lee MLC unveiling the new art work. It is hoped it will bring good fortune to the area and prosperity to all.
Take your personal selfie with family and friends and share on social media as we celebrate the Year of the Dragon in 2024.
